About Us

Q & A with Adair, owner of Sweet Louisa Pups

Tell us about yourself.

Greetings! My name is Adair and I am the owner of Sweet Louisa Pups, raising happy and healthy puppies on our farm in Southeast Iowa. I am a wife, Mom of 5, coffee lover, beach vacation enthusiast, small town girl, and (most importantly for this small business) an animal lover! I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Animal Science and shortly after brought home my first dog.

Why did you decide to raise puppies?

Raising puppies just seemed like a natural fit for me with my education in Animal Science, the space our farm provides, and my passion for caring for another living creature. Growing up, my parents blessed me with the opportunity to always be surrounded by animals, from dogs to goats to cattle. From the age of 7, I always had responsibilities connected to caring for our animals. I have a vivid memory from my childhood of my dad always saying, "You don't eat until the animals do." I truly think the connection I developed with animals from an early age directed my life path and continues to do so.

Raising kids and puppies, how do you do it?

Sometimes, actually most of the time, the puppies are easier than the kids! All joking aside, I don't do it alone. My husband, Jason, is a big part of the success of our business and my boys have the *tough job* of playing and interacting with the puppies to ensure you are receiving a well socialized puppy. I work part-time, allowing me time to  devote to the care and wellbeing of our dogs and communicate with prospective puppy parents.

Do you have any other animals on your farm?

Actually we do! We also raise sheep! We have about 30 mama sheep (ewes is the proper term) and raise and sell lambs for 4-H kids to show at the county fair. One of the outside areas for our puppies actually doubles as our lambing barn, so if you also happen to have sheep at home, your puppy will be well adjusted!

We also have outdoor cats that live in our barn and are frequently around our dogs and puppies. Who says cats and dogs can't get along!

Why should I buy a puppy from Sweet Louisa Pups?

We are passionate about bringing joy to others through the companionship of dogs. We are easy to work with, do our best to communicate and respond quickly, and want your family to walk away from our farm excited and satisfied with your purchase. At Sweet Louisa Pups, you can rest assured you are receiving a puppy that has been well cared for, comes from genetically sound parents, and is happy to join your family.
